The Civilian Committee, or CivCom for short, is a group of volunteer parents with cadets in Squadron who help with various aspects of Squadron life. CivCom’s main roles are to help Flight Lieutenant Whitfield and the rest of the staff with things like fundraising, publicity, recruitment, events, and how Squadron funds should be spent. CivCom is a vital group for the Squadron and it helps remove some of the enormous burden of work from staff in making sure 2359 (Woolton) Squadron remains an exciting, dynamic, enriching, busy, and life-enhancing experience for our cadets.
Even though CivCom has an elected Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer, the committee is run as a collective, everyone works on an equal footing, and we have found that every member has a skill or ability to bring as a contribution. Current members have been instrumental in things like securing donations from places of work, using their contacts to book venues for events, ringing and emailing local businesses for prize donations, creating and launching this website, producing flyers, contacting schools for special assemblies, applying for grants and funding, etc. The main thing is that members bring their support, and their ideas.
There is an RAF requirement that CivComs should have at least five members. 2359 currently has eight. We would like to reach twelve members. All that’s required is for you to have the enthusiasm and willingness to contribute ideas and skills to the group aimed at the betterment and support of the Squadron as a whole. CivCom meets roughly once every six weeks on a Thursday parade night for about an hour and a half so the time commitment for meetings is low.
If you are the parent of a cadet of 2359 (Woolton) Squadron and would like to come along to the next meeting to find out more about CivCom, find out what you could bring to the group, or whether it is for you, please email chairman@2359wooltonsquadron.org or fill in the online form on the Contact page to arrange a taster visit. We’d be glad to welcome you.
